The Witness Tree Project | The Witness Trees | Wollemia nobilis
Wollemia nobilis or Wollemi pine was thought to be extinct until the discovery of a small population in 1994 in Australia. Its presence in the fossil records, other than granting this species the name of living fossils, makes it an ideal candidate for comparing modern and past responses to environmental changes.
Due to the size of its population, it is a critically endangered species [1], and it is also a species that is as yet moderately researched globally, with less than 30 of its features being studied, as retrieved from relevant databases.
