We extend a big welcome to our 2024 summer interns! They are Ben, Helena and Cherie, and are this year’s winners of the Cathcart and Schuler Internships.

L-R: Ben Flavin, Helena Brady and Cherie Salo

We are very lucky to have the company of three student interns at the gardens this summer. They will be a big help to us during what is normally a busy time at the garden, and they themselves will learn new skills and put all their lecture theory into useful practice.

Cherie is a third year Botany student, and Helena is heading into her final year Botany; Ben Flavin is a final year Environmental Science student. Both Cherie and Ben are joining us as Conservation Horticulture interns, working full-time in the gardens to assist in collections maintenance, plant propagation, planting and potting.

Helena is doing her internship under the Inclusive Trinity Internship Programme rolled out by Trinity disAbility Service. She will be splitting her time between the gardens, and Trinity Herbarium where she will be assisting in the digitisation of the collection there. This is the second year that Trinity Botanic Gardens have taken on an intern under the programme and we are delighted to be associated with it. Helena will also continue work started by a previous intern on the garden’s sensory trail.

All will have the opportunity to participate in some conservation fieldwork and outreach activities.

We are delighted to have all three with us!
