Under the Trinity disAbility Inclusive Internship Programme we are delighted to offer a third internship at Trinity Botanic Gardens this summer. We are very pleased to work with disAbility Service on this programme so that every student can look forward to and enjoy positive experiences of employment across TCD.

Job Description

This is a temporary full-time post for six weeks commencing on 4th June 2024. The position will be based primarily at Trinity College Botanic Garden under the supervision of the Outreach Officer and Curator, working alongside the Botanic Garden team including two other interns.

The role will be multi-faceted, and the successful intern will be involved in many aspects of the gardens, from conservation and maintenance of the living collections, to archiving and outreach. Two potential projects may be undertaken:

Project A: Inventory of archives pertaining to Trinity Botanic Garden held at the Herbarium, including pressed plant material, artworks, and correspondence; creation of an associated webpage for the garden’s website and Instagram to showcase some of these archives. Work undertaken at the Herbarium will be under joint supervision with the Assistant Curator and will be dependent on timing of planned renovation works and available space.

Project B: Continue development of the Sensory Trail, designed by a 2023 intern as part of the TCD Sense Project, to create additional seasonal sensory stops.

The internship will also involve participating in the day-to-day horticultural and conservation activities being undertaken in the gardens, and in any outreach activities taking place.

Interns will be encouraged to take every opportunity to learn and to be responsible for all work assigned. There will be a requirement to document and share experiences in a weekly blog or vlog post on the Trinity College Botanic Garden website https://trinitybotanicgarden.ie/.
